This is an administrative and advanced professional work position in traffic/transportation engineering that leads and oversees the work of the Charlotte Department of Transportation’s (the Department) Land Development Section and reports to the Development Services Division Manager.
This position is responsible for managing the transportation components of the City’s commercial permit, subdivision, and rezoning program. The position requires an advanced level of technical knowledge for the development of plans, procedures, and requirements for the land development programs to provide comprehensive access management and review/evaluation of traffic impact studies to mitigate traffic impacts associated with new development. Work includes advanced levels of leadership, planning, organizing, assigning, reviewing and managing the regulatory functions and staff reviewers for the Department. Work involves regular interaction with City Council and appointed commissions. This position also requires strong leadership and supervisory skills to provide mentorship and training of staff and to effectively interact with other departments in the City’s permitting and rezoning programs.
Requires BSCE, MSCE preferred, from an accredited college or university a minimum of five (5) years experience in traffic/transportation engineering practice and three years of progressive supervisory and/or project management experience is desired . PE required with the ability to obtain registration in North Carolina within 6 months.
