Our Geotechnical Practice is currently seeking a self-motivated Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist, possessing 0-3 years of related experience, to join the Valley Forge, PA, office.
What You Will Do
Perform geotechnical calculations for various projects and facilities including, but not limited to, shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, tieback anchors, soil nails, slope stability design and/or stabilization.
Assist in the preparation of geotechnical reports and documentation, correspondence, design details and drawings, proposals and specifications.
Perform detailed field reconnaissance and geological research to evaluate site-specific geotechnical, geologic and hydrogeologic conditions and risks.
Assist in the planning of subsurface explorations and laboratory testing investigations.
Execute subsurface investigations in support of geotechnical design and evaluation efforts, including test boring inspection, installing and monitoring instrumentation, and other data collection activities as required.
Compile and manage geotechnical data and prepare typed boring logs and subsurface profiles.
Provide construction observation support during the construction phase of projects.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering required
Master of Science Degree with a focus in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering preferred
0-3 years of related experience
EIT/GIT certification preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work independently and within a team environment
Strong analytical, organizational, and report writing skills
Project experience with bridges, roadways, retaining walls, towers, embankments, reinforced slopes, ground improvement, pavement design, and soil and/or rock slope mitigation is preferred.
Strong leadership ability and personal initiative. The candidate is expected to have a genuine interest in geotechnical engineering and a desire to learn and grow professionally.
Experience with common geotechnical/geological software programs such as gINT, SLIDE, SLOPE/W, LPILE, GROUP, GRLWEAP, CRSP, RockPack, RockWorks, and DIPS is a plus.
Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation and ArcGIS is a plus.
Excellent field observation and data collection/documentation skills
Geotechnical field experience, including test boring inspection, test pit observation, well construction, geophysical surveys, and geological reconnaissance is a plus
Must be able to work outdoors in all seasons
Some travel required for reconnaissance, inspection and construction observation activities
