The Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at Iowa State University is seeking applicants for an Assistant/Associate Professor position in agricultural machinery technology. This is a 9-month, tenure-track appointment with potential for summer unding. The position will focus 50% effort on extension/outreach and 50% research.
Extension responsibilities will include developing an innovative and effective extension and outreach program in agricultural machinery technology. Specific program areas may include: liquid and granular application technologies, precision agriculture, digital agriculture, sustainability of agricultural machinery, and aerial imagery technologies.
Research responsibilities should complement the extension and outreach effort and result in an internationally recognized and extramurally funded applied research program that is relevant to Iowa agriculture. Research expertise may include spray technologies, precision and digital agriculture, agricultural automation, cyber physical systems, machine learning, and smart agricultural sensors and networks.
Appointment at the Associate Professor level will also include engagement in departmental undergraduate educational programs.
The successful candidate is expected to: a) develop a high-impact extension and outreach program serving Iowa production agriculture and the ag machinery technology industry; b) develop an internationally recognized research program in agricultural technologies; c) secure extramural funding and successfully recruit and advise graduate students; d) establish a solid record in research scholarship; and e) participate in interdisciplinary research programs to address priority areas of the Iowa agricultural industry.
An ideal candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of agricultural cropping systems; excellent speaking and writing skills; and the ability and desire to work in interdisciplinary and interdepartmental research and extension teams.
Required: Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering, Biosystems Engineering or a closely related field from a US accredited or internationally recognized institution. Ph.D. must be completed by the start date of the employment. Associate Professor candidates will, in addition to the above, demonstrate an excellent record of funded research and internationally recognized scholarship commensurate with the such appointments and meet the university, college and departmental standards for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor with tenure.
Preferred: Demonstrated potential or experience to develop a high-impact extension and outreach program in ag machinery technology including liquid and granular application technologies, precision agriculture, digital agriculture, sustainability of agricultural machinery, and aerial imagery technologies. Demonstrated potential or experience to secure extramural funding to support an internationally recognized research program in ag machinery technology including spray technologies, precision and digital agriculture, agricultural automation, cyber physical systems, machine learning, and smart agricultural sensors and networks. Demonstrated ability or potential to guide graduate students and publish timely research findings in high quality peer reviewed journals. Evidence of effective oral and written communications, a compelling extension and research agenda complimentary to the department needs, engagement and leadership in professional organizations and ability or potential to work in interdisciplinary and interdepartmental research and extension teams.
