The Transportation Engineer 1 – Network Screening performs crash data analysis and network screening (hotspot, rate, predictive or other techniques). The position uses the results of this analysis and screening to develop recommendations on safety improvements. The position is also responsible tracking before and after performance of safety improvements and for advising ADOT personnel and regional and local staff on best practices based on these outcomes. The position will oversee the training, implementation and integration of analysis techniques and software into the ADOT and statewide safety community. The position also performs engineering design work including optimization to recommend and/or refine safety countermeasures. This position should understand basic construction cost estimation of various suggested enhancements and should be capable of developing Benefit/Cost ratios associated with the proposed enhancement(s) for specific proposals. The position also researches new or promising techniques or technologies for safety enhancement and provides background and briefing on new technologies.
The position may also review and approve design exception reports for other divisions, write official memos, reports, and presentations under his or her, own name at the completion of each safety evaluation. The position also supervises staff to conduct safety analysis.
AREAS OF INVOLVEMENT
Prioritize improvements based on traffic safety principals and crash data.
Participate in road safety assessments (RSAs) and assist in recommending countermeasures.
Develop concepts for signing and striping (MUTCD) changes.
Assist other supervisors with budgeting, asset management, and performance measures.
Analyze data and present results through technical writing and presentations.
Lead project teams utilizing continuous improvement techniques (problem solving, Kaizen, etc.) to accomplish prioritized initiatives.
Oversee projects and project teams to accomplish specific outcomes.

Must be a registered Professional Engineer (Civil Engineering preferred) in the State of Arizona or eligible for reciprocity.
Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience as an engineer with increasing responsibilities.
