Senior Mechanical Engineer Location: Walled Lake, Michigan Status: Full-time
PRIMARY FUNCTION • Responsible for the design and technical systems for schematic design through construction administration for industrial, commercial and health care projects.
TYPICAL DUTIES • Responsible for building system concepts and documentation process from schematics through construction. • Function as team leader on large mechanical projects. • Interface and coordinate with other disciplines on smaller projects. • Prepare and document required code research for projects. • Prepare building energy modeling for HVAC unit selection. • Working knowledge of National and Local codes and regulations associated with HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection. • Design mechanical systems including heat load calculations, chillers, boilers, air handlers sizing, ducts and pipes sizing. • Preparing project-specific technical specifications (mostly short form). • Participate in the development of project cost estimates. • Conduct material and product research as required for project development. • Attend project meetings as necessary. • Respond to client questions / requests quickly to meet their needs. • Document interpretation and submittal reviews during bidding and construction administration. • Detailed field investigation for remodeling projects. • Maintain relationships with repeat customers
SKILL, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE • Bachelor's degree and licensure highly recommended, but not required. • Minimum six years' experience in A/E industry preferred. • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of professional services from schematic design through project close-out, including design and technical expertise. • A comprehensive understanding of the coordination aspects and related requirements of all design disciplines. • Good written and verbal communication skills, and strong organizational skills. • MS Windows, MS Word, MS Excel and AutoCAD literate. • Ability to utilize building energy modeling software (i.e. Trane Trace) • Knowledge and ability to practical and constructible solutions. • Practical knowledge of construction practices and ability to work directly with contractors and skilled trades. • Very detail-oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic and flexible. • Ability to work well with others under deadline situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Capable of traveling to and from project sites for attending client, project and construction meetings. • Ability to access existing and new project sites for observation, investigation and evaluation purposes. • Ability to use equipment for communication and documentation purposes. • Visual acuity to perform responsibilities.
