Covance Food Solutions is looking to add a Director to run our Quality and Compliance team. Covance Food Solutions has experienced significant growth over the last few years. With more than 70 years of experience in nutritional testing, Covance plays a leading role in the design of testing programs required to meet regulatory nutrition facts labeling requirements, regulatory mandates and scientific standards. Covance provides our clients with expertise in Nutritional Analysis, Microbiology Testing and Product Development. You will have primary responsibility for designing and leading our quality strategy across the Covance Food Solutions Business. In this role you will be accountable for leading the QA and Compliance function(s) covering multiple sites and/or across a region. Responsibility for understanding that regulatory expectations may be very different from operations in other regions of the world, requiring the QA lead to forge relations with local regulators and other external parties in order to help ensure Covance is able to implement systems and processes that will meet local compliance expectations.
Leadership of direct reports, and the wider QA team; accountability for budgeting and cost control; accountability for implementation and management of compliant local audit programs; accountability for maintaining constructive and effective relationships with external regulatory contacts (both clients and national regulatory bodies); maintaining organizational awareness of regulatory developments and requirements; and responsibility for ensuring all potential compliance issues are identified and brought to the attention of appropriate business managers in a timely manner.
Other responsibilities include: • Drives growth and create a quality strategy for our clients. • Primary responsibility for all quality systems with CFS • Plays a lead role in representing Covance during inspections by external bodies (both clients and national regulators).* • Enhances Covance’s external profile, and develops an effective network, through active participation in external industry and regulatory forums.* • Responsibility for QA operations across multiple sites, or region, or within a single location where local management or regulatory support is limited (eg Asia Pac).* • Accountable for budgetary planning and cost control for their assigned areas of responsibility. • Designs and delivers training as necessary to enhance regulatory awareness within their area(s) of responsibility. • Accountable for design and implementation of local audit practices that fulfill regulatory requirements. • Responsibility to use the resources at their disposal to effectively identify potential compliance issues in a timely manner, and ensure they are reported to the appropriate levels of management in order to achieve satisfactory resolution for the business. • Leads process improvement and harmonization efforts that promote best practices. • Support compliance of ISO/IEC 17025:2005 • May be required to assume responsibilities of Site Operations in the absence of the Site Operations Head • Conducts and hosts client visits to CFS
The Required Education for the Director – Quality & Compliance includes:
Bachelor of Science/Arts (BS/BA) degree; degree in a science field is preferred (e.g. chemistry, biology, animal science) + 10 years of experience
Minimum of 5-7years experience within the Quality field
Minimum of 5 years management experience or supervising teams
Required Experience/Skills for the Director – Quality & Compliance includes:
At least 8 years experience in a regulated environment.
Experience of people management and leadership roles.
Experience in the techniques of food, supplement, and ingredient analysis and/or microbiology.
Expert with industry standards, such as AOAC, USP, ISO 17025, etc.
Experience with GLPs and cGMPs (for Dietary Supplements or Medicated Feeds)
Extensive knowledge of related regulations in a contract laboratory environment
Skilled in performing presentations, leading meetings, time management, and planning, budgeting and negotiation.
Proven experience with customers and driving growth for a business
Demonstrated ability for logical thinking, vision, and creativity necessary to function effectively with little structure or supervision .
