As the Principal Engineer, Energy Systems, you will have the opportunity to advance the Distributed Energy Solutions business by leading the specification, design and interconnection of complex energy conversion and distributed generation systems and the sales of related equipment and services. Additionally you will apply power systems experience, technical support and customer relationship management to advance our Electrical Distribution Division (EDD) and MEPPI equipment and service sales within the generation market segment.
Key components of this role:
Lead and support the preparation and execution of large-scale technical proposals for equipment such as PV Inverters, MV Transformers Modules, Power Conversion Systems (Skids), Storage Systems and other related equipment by managing engineering support, proposal works, customer interface, and post-award activities.
Create plans for solar energy system development, monitoring, and evaluation activities including single-line diagrams and connection diagrams for solar electric systems.
Coordinate, with internal and external customers, power systems engineering studies and analysis in a variety of areas, such as: interconnection, load flow, distributed energy resource capacity, short circuit, transient stability, control design, equipment applications, and other technical areas.
Coordinate, independently use, and support others in the use of, software programs such as PSLF, PSS/E, PSCAD and others to conduct load flow, transient stability, reactive planning, infrastructure re-enforcement, generator interconnection, and related studies, as needed.
Lead and coordinate preliminary and detailed energy conversion and management studies of complex power generation projects.
Independently lead projects and customer engagements related to renewable resources, intermittent resources, distributed energy resources, battery energy storage, relay protection and monitoring.
Develop design specifications and functional requirements for utility scale solar energy systems and related components.
Perform computer simulation of solar photovoltaic (PV) generation system performance or energy production to optimize efficiency.
Review specifications and recommend design or manufacturing changes to achieve energy objectives. Evaluate plans or specifications to determine technological or environmental implications.
Independently prepare technical reports and white papers in response to customer specifications, RFP / RFQ, and technical information requests for power systems engineering analysis.
Conduct technical presentations for customers and lead meetings with customers to execute PV Sales plan.
Engineering degree: BSEE, MS/ME, or Masters (or equivalent) in electrical engineering with emphasis on electric power engineering with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the power systems studies consulting field or electric utility system planning field or with a transmission and distribution manufacturer’s application engineering group, or equivalent education and experience.
Advanced knowledge of electric power systems and equipment operation and control.
Advanced knowledge of DERs and PV Renewable Generation Industry and emerging uses.
Advanced interpersonal skills with ability to maintain relationships with diverse customer and supplier groups.
Ability to analyze technical products and market need to arrive at an appropriate product roadmap.
Advanced organizational, presentation, communication and technical writing skills.
