Job Requisition Number: 25155. In 2017, a new department was established to oversee the operations of the software solution installed during 2016 to replace the university's constellation of disparate student systems. The Student Information Systems (SIS) department is part of Information Systems and Technology in the Division of Administration.
The objective of SIS is to operationalize a continuous cycle of technical improvement and feature enhancements in the new PeopleSoft Campus Solutions system and its associated applications implemented as part of the Student Information Systems Project. These applications support processes in admissions, enrollment, registration, financial aid, student accounts, advising, and a student portal. To ensure the success of these mission-critical systems, SIS was staffed with a blend of technical and functional experts who will test and implement new features, respond to campus needs, and keep all systems running optimally throughout the academic cycle.
This is a contract (temporary) employee position with access to certain/full UC benefits, depending on duration.
Development & Unit Testing •Applies advanced applications programming concepts to design, develop, modify, debug and evaluate highly complex programs for a variety of functional areas. •Develops and executes moderately complex test plans. Participates and leads performance/load testing as needed. •Develops code ( Rails, Angular ) for new functionality, enhancements and bugs in CalCentral and/or for integration with the suite of student systems. •Ensures that System Development Life Cycle and change management procedures are followed and documented to support the change requests. •Works directly with functional, design and testing experts to validate that requirements have been met. •Provides second-level operational support, troubleshooting, and security vulnerability testing/remediation requiring rotating 24x7 support when necessary.
Analysis, Design & Technical Specifications •Responsible for providing analysis and documentation for highly complex modules supporting students, faculty, advisors and staff and integration with the suite of student systems. •Works closely with Business Analysts, Designers, and end users to understand functional requirements and use cases. •Initiates, designs and uses complex relational databases for data analysis. •Develops technical specifications, presents at design reviews and obtains approval for development plan. May lead design reviews.
Security & Standards •Initiates and recommends changes in development, maintenance and system standards. •Develops, implements and maintains standards for secure and performant coding. •Understands industry practices and department policies and procedures relating to work assignments.
Leadership & Communication •Interacts with senior level internal management, internal and external Developers, end users and Business Analysts. •May lead a team of applications programming professionals. •Keeps current with emerging technologies. •Works independently and makes actionable recommendations to managers, directors, and senior stakeholders based on his/her technical expertise. •Effectively communicates (verbal or written) complex technical subject matter to a variety of audiences. •Demonstrates values of excellence, innovation and integrity. •Collaborates and mentors other technical, functional or support staff on complex technical issues to provide effective and maintainable solutions.•Requires demonstrated expertise and proficiency in Ruby on Rails, Angular/JS programming languages •Must have knowledge relating to the design and development of application programs across an enterprise organization. •Knowledge of department processes and procedures, secure/performant coding standards. •Requires interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Requires ability to understand business needs and how business systems can support those needs. Must be able to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner with demonstrated ability to modify content to audience. •Must be self- motivated, work independently or as part of a team, able to learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate problem solving skills. •High commitment to excellence, collaboration and team achievement. •Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
