Qualifications We are seeking a candidate in an open-specialization field of Italian Studies with preference for the following areas of expertise: Medieval and Renaissance literature and culture, language pedagogy, Mediterranean studies, migration studies, translation studies, women and gender studies. Candidates with strong interdisciplinary interests and expertise in at least two of these fields will be given preference. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in hand by June 2019. Native or near-native fluency in Italian and English required. Demonstrable excellence in undergraduate teaching and evidence or clear promise of scholarship are essential. The successful candidate will show a firm commitment to participating fully in a highly collegial department and teaching at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum. Teaching load in the first year is four courses. In ensuing years, it will be five courses or four plus an 'intensive'. Experience and/or demonstrable interest in study abroad are highly desirable. Vassar is a highly selective, coeducational liberal arts college of about 2450 undergraduates (no graduate students) located in the beautiful and historic Hudson Valley seventy-five miles north of New York City.
