Our structural designers perform the design of simple to moderately complex bridges and other highway and transportation related structures to solve engineering problems. These innovative positions also provide structural analysis and design services to project delivery for the state's bridges and transportation structures.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform bridge and structures engineering of simple to moderately complex bridges and other transportation related structures.
Perform modeling for structural analysis.
Perform design and detailing for simple to moderately complex bridges and structures.
Prepare estimates of probable construction cost.
Prepare construction specifications.
Coordinate the resolution of design and detail issues.
Complete preliminary design and final design phase.
Perform a complete engineering analysis and load rating of new bridges.
Complete design and structure cost data and calculation books.
Perform quality practices and quality checking duties.
Provide engineering support to construction project managers.
Assist in consultation for planning, scoping, technical design, and construction issues.
Assist in providing project scoping consultation to project leaders.
Desired Attributes/Application Scoring Criteria: In addition to your related work experience and education, we will use the attributes below to determine whom to interview. You are not required to have all of these attributes, but please make sure that the ones you do have are clearly demonstrated in your application materials. Your application materials may be graded on spelling, grammar, punctuation, and presentation.
Experience applying professional engineering theory, principles and methods in civil or structural design.
Formal academic education in civil engineering with a structural emphasis.
Experience designing simple to moderately-complex bridges.
The majority of work is performed in an office environment with occasional field work required.
Field work requires working on bridges of varying heights and may require walking adjacent to fast moving traffic, stooping, bending or climbing around hazardous locations, working 20 to 400 feet or more above ground, traffic, railways, or water, and using safety equipment.
Occasional day or night shift work required outside of normal work schedule.
Minimum Qualifications: Completion of and passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and one year of experience applying professional engineering theory, principles and methods.
Special Qualifications: Driving is an essential function of this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s).
