Position Summary and ResponsibilitiesThe Education Department at Vassar College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position with a specialty in Literacy and/or Special Education to begin in Fall 2019.

We are seeking an individual with a strong commitment to promoting socially just, equitable, inclusive, and critically transformative learning environments to teach Literacy courses (Teaching of Reading and Adolescent Literacy) and/or Special Education to students pursuing childhood and secondary teaching certification (grades 1-12). In addition to teacher education, the Education Department offers a major and correlate in Educational Studies and we seek a colleague with research and teaching interests that engage critical theoretical perspectives that would expand our curriculum. The teaching load is fives courses per year.
A completed application should include a cover letter that reflects a commitment to social justice and equity in teaching and scholarship, curriculum vitae, evidence of excellence in teaching at the college level (such as prior teaching evaluations or course syllabi) and three letters of reference.

Qualifications Qualifications: Doctorate in education or related field strongly preferred (ABD considered); at least three years of public school teaching experience with people of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds; a record of or potential for excellence in college teaching in a liberal arts setting; expertise in or experience working with inclusive special education environments and with pre-service teachers are also highly valued.
