Hudson County Community College is an award-winning, comprehensive urban college with two campuses located just minutes from Manhattan in Jersey City and Union City, NJ. The Journal Square campus sits at the center of Journal Square in the center of Jersey City, next to a major PATH station and transportation hub, while the Union City campus sits adjacent to a vital light rail station.

The College is currently searching for an Instructor of English (3 positions) within the College's English and ESL Division. Under the supervision of the Associate Dean of English and ESL Division, the Instructor English is responsible for teaching 15 credits per semester of in college composition, English or literature. The majority of the courses taught should be College Composition I and II. As a professional member of the College community, an instructor is also required to participate in division and college-wide activities such as curriculum development, academic advisement, committee work and/or other extracurricular activities. This is a full-time, ten-month, tenure-track position.
Requirements: Demonstrated understanding of the mission of an urban community college and have experience working with a culturally diverse community. Demonstrable knowledge of current English and writing educational theories, andragogic best practices, and educational technology. Must be able to teach students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Demonstrable understanding of the mission of an urban community college and have experience working with a culturally diverse community, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrated ability to provide diverse teaching methods to different learning styles. Demonstrated commitment to the teaching profession and professional growth. Ability to work collaboratively required.
Education Requirements: Master's degree in Composition and Rhetoric, English, or closely related field, from a regionally accredited institution of higher education, as well as a minimum of two years of teaching experience (preferably at the community college level), is required. Finalists will be required to submit official transcripts and to provide a teaching demonstration.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching traditional and online classes preferred. Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of constituencies and the academically underprepared in a multi-cultural community. Proficiency with various computer software programs and the use of Ellucian-Colleague or similar higher education platform preferred.
