The focus of this position is to support planning activities and the sourcing and acquisition of raw materials, electricity, and natural gas to achieve optimal value while supporting production operations. The Buyer supports the coordination of the procurement strategy for the raw material commodities and other key raw materials as assigned. This will involve an in depth understanding of the market, supplier sourcing, risk and performance management.
Purchasing and management of raw materials requires a number of skills, qualifications and attributes. The Buyer will be operating on a global basis and will need to demonstrate a real understanding of the market, both domestically and internationally, in order to be able to identify new opportunities and innovations and to ensure that these are fully vetted. The Buyer will also need to be able to identify and minimize risk. In short this means developing an appropriate risk mitigation strategy through an appropriate supplier network maintaining continuity of supply while reducing risk within the supply chain as a whole. In parallel the Buyer must be able to understand how the global and strategic procurement fits into the overall company strategy.
The Buyer, at selected times, will also be cross-trained throughout the Purchasing department in order to provide capital and MRO support as well as other purchasing activities as required.
Minimum of a BS Business Administration; Supply Management; Operations Management or similar degree (MBA preferred).
10+ years of experience in Procurement / Supply Management in a manufacturing / industrial setting. Strongly prefer 5+ years of experience in mining or heavy construction related industry.
CPSM - Certified Professional in Supply Management (ISM – Institute for Supply Management Certification) preferred.
Negotiating pricing, lead-times, terms and conditions
Uniform Commercial Code (UCC)
Good working knowledge of Incoterms 2010 and all freight transportation modes: Rail, truckload, LTL, ocean / water, air.
Working with both domestic and international suppliers
Think and act both tactically and strategically
Experience operating in a MSHA (Mine Safety Health Administration) environment preferred
Acquisition of raw materials, electricity, and natural gas
Acquisition of large capital construction projects (project size: $500K to $Millions)
Acquisition of maintenance, engineering and construction services
Acquisition of large mobile and stationary equipment in support of mining operations (Loaders, Dozers, Trucks, Crushing & Screening equipment, etc.)
Heavy construction industry experience would be considered in lieu of mine operations experience.
Acquisition of MRO supplies and spare parts with a heavy emphasis on power transmission materials
Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office (especially Excel), Google Suites (especially Gmail, Google Meets, and Google Drive), and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) with strengths in the supply chain management area (includes: purchasing, inventory mgmt., shipping, receiving and storage)
