The SC Johnson College of Business IT team plays a critical role in the success of the College by providing the technology and systems required to fulfill its mission. We identify, implement and support appropriate technology solutions and services to exceed the expectations of our customers and stakeholders. In doing so, we collaborate with stakeholders to leverage technology as an engine for innovation, transformation, and differentiation.
Lead a team with the objective to deliver high quality software, on time and within budget. Help management to define the vision and execute a strategy for cloud technologies for JCB. Optimize the development and operations processes with the aim to maximize automation, and to achieve continuous integration and efficient environments for developers and users. Provide leadership to other team members to maximize technical excellence and project success. Provide advice and guidance as necessary and delegate tasks and duties within project guidelines.
Responsible for design, development, and integration of web application software for JCB at Cornell. These applications will utilize data pertaining to academic, admissions, human resources, IT, and other business units to provide tools for both internal and external users. Work closely with project owners, team members, the team Technical Lead, and other IT professionals to provide high quality solutions.
Integrate JCB's information systems and data using current technology and tools. Produce reliable, scalable, and user-friendly applications, including reporting tools using creativity and relevant industry knowledge. Provide maintenance, training, consulting, and recommendations for administrative systems for the SC Johnson College. Analyze requirements and model data for applications and websites.
Collaborate with business and product owners in teams and drive innovative ideas for the JCB mission. Drive innovative technical solutions in the areas of architecture, infrastructure, integration, tools, and deployment methods. Continuously communicate progress, results and opportunities to business and technology executives.
Key responsibilities of this position consist of:
Team Leadership and Management:
Manage a functional area in support of information technologies
Day-to-day supervision of employees within the department to provide information, guidance, and training
Work collaboratively with the Technical Lead to ensure effective identification, negotiation and resolution of complex issues
Manage or lead the planning, implementing, tracking and reporting on complex projects
Persuade others to take particular course of action
Coordinate major activities
Develop and make presentations and negotiate with others
May assist in defining and facilitating appropriate policies, standards, plans and controls
Define information security policy, standards and guidelines
Occasionally required to develop new, imaginative or innovative solutions, services, products, processes or programs
Responsible for people management, including assisting with career planning and development, support, training, interviewing, hiring, rewarding, disciplining, and performance & salary reviews
Software Engineering / Systems Analysis:
Design, code, test, debug, develop tools and document and maintain complex programs, systems or web applications
Work with users for needs analysis and provide resolution
Formulate, define system scope and objectives to develop or modify complex software systems
Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of complex IT services/products including stakeholder management, integration and sourcing of resources
Create models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones; conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols and standards
Interview end users, domain experts, and clients to gather information for applications and/or site architecture and user interface design
Conduct and analyze usability testing on prototypes; recommend and implement solutions
Ensure navigation and usability meet standards of presentation and user friendliness; ensure functionality on supported platforms
Assist with designing and implementing policies and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets
Create, review and tune SQL and PL/SQL code
Design and build reports and reporting tools for academic and administration users
Work with DBAs to move applications into system test and production environments
Work closely with appropriate vendors to resolve issues and evaluate new products

Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems or equivalent with a minimum 3-5 years' experience in systems development and web technologies. Must have experience gathering requirements from users and working on the entire software lifecycle.
Extensive experience in automated testing methodologies, enterprise level reporting and complex software integration/development required.
Must have working knowledge and experience with HTML, SQL and Ruby on Rails. Requires knowledge of relevant programming tools (see preferred qualifications) and agile software development processes.
Proven ability to effectively train, guide & advise others. Strong written & oral communication skills required. Able to work well as a member of a team within a constantly changing environment.
