We are looking for an Associate Director who will also function as a writer for our communications team in development. The Associate Director will lead and mentor a team of communications specialists in writing, editing and designing compelling proposals, stewardship reports, brochures and other materials with an original, persuasive voice that effectively communicates the impact and mission of UTHealth’s work toward the goal of cultivating and soliciting philanthropic support from individuals and institutions. The Associate Director will work closely with other teams within the Office of Development as well as faculty and staff across the university. The team currently is made up of three writers who you will need to manage from day to day. They will work in the trenches side by side with these employees. You will need to know how to take complex medical concepts and scientific material and translate it into easy to understand articles for a general audience. It would also be helpful if you have experience with InDesign and desktop publishing.
This is a full-time position that will work in our University Center Tower located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center. It is a building that is easily accessible from all Metro options--both bus and rail. It is eligible for full benefits including health coverage and a pension plan administered by the State of Texas.

• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills • Detail and goal oriented with high level of initiative, and adept at problem-solving • Ability to prioritize and track multiple projects, deadlines, and tasks • Superior written and verbal communication skills with the ability to impart information in a compelling and succinct form. Exceptional proofreading and copy editing skills. • A journalistic ability to quickly grasp and synthesize specialist knowledge and then make it clear for prospects and donors. Deftness and speed in executing strong writing. • Experience in InDesign preferred.
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Six (6) years of writing/communications experience preferred, including a proven record of successful proposal writing experience in higher education and/or health care and in a fast-paced environment. Experience writing in a large health care and/or university philanthropic development setting preferred. Management experience preferred.
