WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The Positive Train Control Project Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating Montana Rail Link’s (MRL) Positive Train Control (PTC) construction and implementation. MRL has voluntarily committed to install and operate a vital overlay positive train control PTC system along its principal routes in Montana and Idaho. PTC is a redundant safety system that tracks the location, speed, and movement of trains and can automatically stop a train to prevent specific human-error accidents. MRL will install PTC on a total of 655 route-miles of its mainline network. The project will consist of multiple segments, including GIS and propagation surveys, signal and locomotive on-board design, wayside construction, and back-office architecture and implementation. MRL will design, engineer and construct its PTC system in accordance with all applicable federal regulations to achieve mandated interoperability with its interchange partners.
LOCATION: Missoula, MT headquarters reporting to the Vice President of Administration. Position will travel with high frequency across the MRL system – primarily in Montana.

Provide project management oversight for entirety of MRL’s Positive Train Control (PTC) design, construction and implementation.
Tracks schedule and budget progress with project milestones and takes all action necessary to keep project on track.
Identifies and secures necessary approvals for all changes in project scope, budget and/or schedule.
Provide clear communication to all associated stakeholders and teams, coordination and follow up to meet project goals and objectives; ensure project scope or work, schedule and budget are clearly defined and understood.
Serve as project representative with client, subcontractors, and vendors at onset, project review, and other meetings and correspondence.
Provide regular, timely information needed to company executives and external stakeholders.
Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business Administration (Accounting, Management or Finance), Construction Management or related field. Equivalent experience in a related position will also be considered.
5-10 years construction experience, project management experience
Working knowledge of fundamental railroad maintenance and operations preferred.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
Previous experience with large scale, multi-million dollar engineering projects
Expertise in project scheduling and understanding of vendor billing and managing deadlines for all deliverables and materials.
Ability to develop high level of credibility and strong positive relationships with contractors, vendors and coworkers.
Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to articulate clearly and concisely, tailored to audience
Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments.
