Education and Experience Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. A degree in a closely related field may be considered.
• Minimum five (5) years of transportation related design or project management experience.
• Washington State Professional Civil Engineering license required or ability to acquire within six (6) months of employment.
• Washington State driver's license is required or ability to acquire within three (3) months of employment.

Competencies

• Knowledge of established civil engineering principles, practices, methods and techniques related to transportation. Knowledge of Vision Zero, Complete Streets and NACTO concepts in project design and development.
• Ability to take projects from a conceptual state through construction and doing so successfully while engaging stakeholders.
• Ability to deliver the projects on time and on budget. Ability to identify and address risks to project design, schedule or budget.
• Ability to design and implement transportation projects and project scoping design concepts.
• Ability to provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers and maintain productive working relationships. Excellent interpersonal communication skills including public speaking and the ability to communicate technical information in a non-technical manner.
• Ability to organize, analyze, interpret and evaluate civil engineering problems and provide practical, cost-effective solutions.
• Ability to use computer software applications to improve work processes, such as databases, spreadsheets, projects management tools, AutoCAD and/or equivalent software.
• Proven ability to independently plan, schedule, organize and complete multiple projects within established deadlines and budget.
• Ability to apply sound engineering judgment under stressful situations. Ability to problem solve and resolve conflicts with a wide variety of stakeholders, make decisions, and develop recommendations.
