Hampden-Sydney College, an NCAA Division III institution and member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, is accepting applications for a Coordinator of Athletic Diversity and Inclusion who will work with the College’s Athletic Department and the Office of Equity and Inclusion to design, promote and implement educational outreach and programming efforts to create an inclusive and welcoming campus environment.
In the Athletic Department, the Coordinator will intern under the supervision of the Director of Athletics and assist with day-to-day operations of intercollegiate athletics, intramurals, and recreation programs. The Coordinator will adhere to the Athletic Department’s Code of Ethics and NCAA Division III Philosophy Statement. This position will promote diversity, equity and inclusion programming for the Athletic Department's student athletes and staff. By working closely under the Director of Athletics, the Coordinator will gain entry-level experience in strategic planning, budget management, fundraising, campus and NCAA compliance, sport oversight, event management, student-athlete welfare issues, academics, and diversity and inclusion initiatives.
In the Office of Equity and Inclusion, the Coordinator will work under the mentorship of the Dean of Inclusive Excellence to promote positive interactions with campus members from all cultures and backgrounds. They will help coordinate educational, cultural, and social programs throughout the academic year, including annual events, student mentorship and support groups. They will serve in an advising capacity for organizations like the Minority Student Union, the Unity Alliance, and Brother 4 Brother. Since many members of the Minority Student Union and Brother 4 Brother are also student athletes, the Coordinator will work with both the Athletic Department and the Office of Equity and Inclusion to ensure that those students have positive extracurricular experiences. The Coordinator’s additional duties could include assisting with event management, community engagement, alumni relations, supervision of DEI ambassadors, and other tasks as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university required; some work experience in athletics preferred. Applicants must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
