The Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Aerospace Engineering seeks an outstanding established or emerging researcher for the Gina Cody Research Chair. The successful candidate will be appointed into a full-time position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. The ideal candidate is either an internationally recognized, established researcher with an exceptional scholarly record who has proven leadership qualities, or an emerging researcher with the potential to be a leader in their field. The candidate is expected to demonstrate a commitment to the supervision of Masters and PhD students and attract strong external funding. The five-year research chair is renewable and comes with an attractive research package. The candidate will preferably have research interests in one of the following areas: (a) mechatronics and robotics, (b) spacecraft, (c) medical devices and healthcare systems, (d) sustainable materials/manufacturing/energy systems or (e) autonomous vehicles, however outstanding candidates in any area of mechanical, aerospace, or industrial engineering will be considered. Duties include research, teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and service to the institution.
Qualifications and Assets:
Candidates should possess the Bachelor’s degree and must have completed their Engineering PhD in one of the above fields or similar engineering disciplines, or be near completion at the start date of the appointment. Membership or eligibility for membership in a Canadian professional engineering association, preferably in Quebec, is required.
The main criteria for selection are scholarly and teaching excellence. The successful candidate is an established or emerging researcher, with a demonstrated ability or evidence to attract strong external funding, and to carry out an independent research program leading to high-impact publications. Industry experience or applications of research to industry will be considered an asset. Applicants must also demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and to the supervision of Masters and PhD students. The language of instruction at Concordia is English, but a working knowledge of French is an asset.
