Penn State Harrisburg, a comprehensive College of The Pennsylvania State University, is excited to welcome applications and nominations for the position of Career Counselor for the Kunkel Career Center.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Career Services, this position will primarily provide individual career counseling to undergraduates, graduates, and alumni; may provide career counseling in a group format. This role will use career self-assessment tools, when appropriate, and assist in clarifying career goals, engage in career research, and develop an active strategy to reach career goals. These meetings occur within brief (10-15 minute) drop-in sessions and within scheduled (30-60 minute) career counseling appointments. Further, the Career Counselor will develop and deliver a range of career education presentations for student classes, student organizations as well as faculty and staff meetings.
The Career Counselor will assist with office major initiatives, including open houses and career fairs and will represent Career Services in university-wide events. This position will act as liaison to academic departments and may support employer outreach, development, and programming initiatives. Will communicate and collaborate with students, staff, and faculty on relevant events. On occasion, will need to work some evening or weekend hours. Additionally, this role will serve on various university-wide and/or campus committees to support shareholders and to accomplish shared initiatives and uncover opportunities for collaboration.
We are seeking applicants who are student-centered and strive to provide outstanding service to students and alumni. Must have excellent presentation skills, excel, and actively contribute within a team environment with open communication. Event planning experience is highly desired. The counselor must be skilled at interpersonal counseling, demonstrate multicultural competence, and be grounded in both career and personal development theory.
This position typically requires a Master's degree or higher in Counseling Psychology, Counselor Education, Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related discipline, and 1 or more years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
