This is an academic year (9-month), tenure track position with teaching, research, and service responsibilities
The Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering is seeking high qualified candidates in the areas of food engineering, processing technologies and biomanufacturing to address key societal challenges related to food, health, economy and environment and to promote much-needed innovation in food processing and manufacturing systems.
The appointee is expected to establish an internationally recognized externally funded fundamental and applied research program in food engineering and processing. Possible research areas include, but are not limited to, innovative engineering, processing, and packaging approaches for addressing challenges of food safety, sustainability and food waste, enhancing food functionality and advancing foods for health, additive and bio-manufacturing approaches for food production, and systems-based approaches for food manufacturing and distribution such as cyber-physical methods and process controls. The engineering and processing approaches may include experimental and/or computational methods.
The appointee will be responsible for teaching new undergraduate and graduate courses in food engineering and technology in the Biological Systems Engineering (EBS) major. Other specific teaching assignments will depend on the academic background of the appointee, and would typically include courses among EBS 1 (Foundations of Biological Systems Engineering), EBS 125 (Heat Transfer in Biological Systems), EBS 127 (Mass Transfer and Kinetics in Biological Systems), EBS 130 (Modeling of Dynamic Processes in Biological Systems), EBS 170 (Biological Systems Engineering Design), EBS 265 (Design and Analysis of Engineering Experiments) and EBS 270 (Modeling and Analysis of Biological Systems). Undergraduate and graduate student mentoring will be expected. Participation in and development of public outreach and/or community engagement programs, and performance of departmental, university and professional service are expected. This position is expected to work with faculty and researchers across campus, and partners in allied industries or other appropriate public and private stakeholders. We are particularly seeking faculty who have demonstrably shown evidence of a strong commitment towards expanding opportunities for women and underrepresented groups to increase the diversity of the campus community. The successful candidate will ensure departmental and University safety policies are met and instill safety and help build a culture of safety throughout the academic program.

B.S. in engineering is required. Ph.D. in engineering is highly desired. Candidates with extensive training in engineering research during their Ph.D. but with a Ph.D. in a related, non-engineering field will also be considered. Post-doctoral experience is preferred. Evidence of research excellence is expected. The candidate should have the ability to develop and instruct undergraduate and graduate courses in the Biological Systems Engineering program, and the ability to develop and conduct extramurally funded research in food engineering.
