ABOUT THIS POSITION
Hiring Incentive: The City is offering a $5,000 hiring incentive to new hires for Structural Plans Engineer which will be paid in accordance with A.R. 2.55.
The Planning & Development Department guides the physical development of the city by preserving our historic sites, planning what can be built where, and ensuring safe construction of buildings and infrastructure. A host of advisory and governing bodies of residents as well as elected officials provide oversight as the city grows and needs arise. The process is governed through development and enforcement of city codes and ordinances.
The City of Phoenix Planning and Development Department is seeking a Structural Plans Engineer to review and examine complex building construction plans for compliance with adopted codes and ordinances. Advice and guidance is provided to architects, engineers, and contractors related to the interpretation of the Phoenix Building Construction Code and in resolving complicated code issues. Technical expertise is exercised to develop and maintain consistency among plan review and inspection staff.
Hybrid workplace permitted after 6 months of employment, with at least two days working in office.
By the end of the 12 month probation period, must meet the following requirements:
- ICC Building Plans Examiner certification.
- Registered Professional Engineer / Structural or Civil (PE) in the State of Arizona.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Knowledge of plan review and examining complex building construction documents prepared by a structural engineers for compliance with adopted codes and ordinances.
- Ability to provide written and verbal communication to architects, engineers, and contractors related to the interpretation of the Phoenix Building Construction Code to resolve complicated code related issues.
- Ability to utilize technical expertise to develop and maintain consistency among plan review and inspection staff.
- Ability to use digital design and plan review markup software (i.e. Bluebeam, projectdox, AutoCAD, etc..
SALARY
$70,969.60 - $107,910.40 annually. Candidates may be hired up to $107,910.40 depending upon qualifications.

Pension Information
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Three years of experience in the building construction industry relating to structural engineering for buildings or similar structures.
- Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering or a related field.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

The City of Phoenix has paused plans to implement a federal mandate requiring all city employees be vaccinated against COVID-19. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Master's degree in civil or structural engineering.
- ICC Building Plans Examiner Certification.
- Professional registration in the State of Arizona as a Structural or Civil Professional Engineer (PE).
