The Mathematics Department at Stony Brook University expects to have one Simons Instructor (SUNY title of Lecturer) and one Gromoll Instructor ( SUNY title of Lecturer) position available beginning in the fall semester of 2025 contingent on funding availability. A Simons/ Gromoll Instructor position is a three-year post-doctoral level appointment with a competitive salary and reduced teaching.

Research Assistant Professor - The Simons Center for Geometry & Physics has two open positions for Mathematics Research Assistant Professors available with a starting date of September 1, 2025 These are non-tenure track appointments offering an annual salary of $85,000. A research fund of $5,000 will be offered for scienti?c travel, inviting visitors and other research related expenses on a yearly basis; in addition, $2,000 will be provided to defray moving expenses in the ?rst year.
The Simons Center for Geometry and Physics is an endowed research organization devoted to furthering fundamental knowledge in geometry and theoretical physics; especially knowledge at the interface of these two disciplines.
Milnor Lecturers - The Institute for Mathematical Sciences (IMS) at Stony Brook University seeks applications for one postdoctoral position (Milnor Lecturer) starting in the Fall 2025 semester. The Milnor Lecturer is a three-year appointment with a competitive salary of $68,000 and reduced teaching.
Our 1,100 acre campus is home to 24,000 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students, and more than 13,500 faculty and staff, including those employed at Stony Brook University Medical Center, Suffolk County?s only academic medical center. The University is a member of the Association of American Universities and co-manager of nearby Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), a multidisciplinary research laboratory supporting world class scientific programs. The recently established Simons Center for Geometry and Physics, located next to the math building, runs intensive programs on the interface between mathematics and theoretical physics, over one thousand scientists pass through the SCGP annually. Many opportunities exist for collaborative research, and in some cases, joint appointments can be arranged.
Home to many highly ranked graduate research programs, Stony Brook University is located 60 miles from New York City on Long Island?s scenic north shore. The Long Island Rail Road connects the Stony Brook Station on campus to midtown Manhattan.
Required Qualifications: Applicants are required to have earned a Ph.D (or foreign equivalent) degree in Mathematics before 8/31/25.
Preferred Qualifications: It is preferred that applicants received their Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in 2018 or later, and that their research areas complement those of current department members.
