Review and approve rail safety related inspection and violation reports prepared by staff.
Identify legislative issues and provide input on proposed legislation pertaining to rail safety and related laws.
Monitor notifications of all incidents on rail systems and determine response requirements.
Formulate and assist in policy development for approval from the Oregon Transportation Commission.
Directly supervise the work of employees within the section. Establish goals and measure performance.
Represent the agency on national committees, provide expertise to resolve issues and work cooperatively with other agencies to provide input on national laws, policies and practices regarding railroad and rail transit issues.
Oversee and manage the federal budget funding for rail program and projects.
Work is primarily performed in an office environment with occasional travel to rail yards or derailment sites where you could be subjected to loud noise, hazardous materials and inclement weather.
Hybrid work options available approximately 20% of the time.

The salary range listed is the non-PERS monthly salary range. If you are already a participating PERS member or once you become PERS eligible, the salary range will increase by95%.

Minimum qualifications:
Seven years of supervision, management, or progressively related experience.
OR
Four years of related experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Special qualifications: Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
