The Department of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Vermont (UVM) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of biomedical engineering. Candidates are expected to hold a baccalaureate degree in engineering or a related field, and a doctorate in biomedical engineering or a related field. The anticipated start date is August 22, 2022. The Biomedical Engineering Program at UVM leverages strong curricular and research ties with the University’s Larner College of Medicine and the University of Vermont Medical Center (a regional referral center providing advanced care for more than 1 million patients), which are located in very close proximity on the same campus. The Program values interdisciplinary research and innovative approaches to engineering education, as illustrated by a new undergraduate curriculum focused on design thinking and active learning. The major enjoys high student enrollment and a strong culture of undergraduate research. External research funding has expanded rapidly in recent years, fueled by shared resources like the Vermont Advanced Computing Core and strong connections with the Larner College of Medicine. We are seeking a new team member to support this growth.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a thriving and externally funded research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in BME, and advise and mentor students at all levels. All qualified applicants will be considered, but we are particularly interested in those who work in areas that complement existing research strengths of the BME Program and the Larner College of Medicine.
