Summary
BART is looking for an engineering leader to strengthen the reliability and performance of our 1,100+ passenger railcar fleet. As our next Group Manager of Vehicle Maintenance Engineering, you’ll play a key role in keeping trains safe, reliable, and ready for the millions of riders who count on us. You will strategize to modernize the railcar fleet, and keep it compliant with the highest regulatory, operational, and safety standards.
In this role, you will lead three Vehicle Systems Engineering managers and their teams, work across departments, partner with outside suppliers and stakeholders, and support from day-to-day operations to long-term asset management. This role will assist with incident investigations, engineering projects, and executive decision-making. No two days are the same. You could be needed anywhere systemwide and may visit suppliers for inspections and requalifications.
Within Rolling Stock and Shops (RS&S), you will help strengthen Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) and value-added engineering, improve fleet performance through reliability data and root-cause analysis, close out Requests for Engineering Information (REIs), tackle component obsolescence, and develop the technical guidance that helps our teams do their best work. Your efforts will help boost reliability, cut maintenance costs, and support continuous improvement across the fleet.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or closely related field from an accredited college or university. Experience: Six (6) years of (full-time equivalent) verifiable professional experience in vehicle preventive maintenance, inspection, and repair of transit vehicles or related experience which must have included at least two (2) years of management and administrative responsibility. License or Certificate: Registration as a professional engineer in the State of California preferred.
